A product of Sevilla FC's youth system, Navas made his debuts for the first team in 2003–04, appearing in three La Liga matches, all as a substitute. He played mainly with the side's B-team, Sevilla Atlético.
In 2005–06, Navas served a loan stint with another Andalusian side, Polideportivo Ejido (second division), after which he lost all ties with Sevilla, joining neighbours Xerez CD.
In 2008–09, Navas was loaned by Xerez to fellow league side Albacete Balompié, appearing regularly as the Castile-La Mancha outfit barely retained its league status. He was subsequently released by Xerez, moving down a level, as he joined CD Guadalajara.
Navas' younger brother, Jesús, is also a footballer and a midfielder; he too represented, with great individual and team success, hometown side Sevilla, and helped the Spanish national team win the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
